Long An wants to establish Can Giuoc City

Long An province unifies the planning of Can Giuoc urban and industrial center, playing an important role in the southern key economic region.

According to the leader of Long An People's Committee, Can Giuoc is planned to be an important urban area in the southern key economic region, playing a supporting role and reducing the pressure to increase population in Ho Chi Minh City; is a driving force for socio-economic development in the Eastern region and the whole Long An province; is the center of industry, urban, trade and services, aquaculture and agriculture. Can Giuoc is also planned to become a focal point for waterway and road traffic, capable of high cargo transportation and convenient connection between the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region; have an important position in security and defense at the southeast gateway of the province.

The province will assign the People's Committee of Can Giuoc district to make a detailed plan. The objectives of the planning are to concretize the national urban classification plan and the plan for the development of urban and rural systems in the Mekong Delta region, towards can Giuoc urban development according to class III urban criteria, as a basis for the formation of Can Giuoc town in the near future and beyond to the provincial city.

Can Giuoc district is located in the southeast of Long An province, which possesses many favorable conditions for urban development. To the north of the district it borders Binh Chanh (HCMC), to the northeast by Nha Be (HCMC), to the east by Can Gio district (HCMC) with the boundary of Soài Rap River, to the northwest by Ben Luc district, to the south and southwest by Can Duoc district.

Can Giuoc is noted for owning a large area and embracing the entire South of Ho Chi Minh City. This is also a strategic economic area when it is the gateway to the South and Southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Because of its convenient location, Can Giuoc currently owns many large industrial parks such as Long Hau industrial park, Tan Kim, Nam Tan Lap, Bac Tan Lap.

Over the years, this locality has had a rapid urbanization rate. Along with the trend of migration to satellite cities, Can Giuoc has also become a destination attracting many of the largest real estate projects in Long An. Up to now, the district has nearly 30 projects with a scale of 10-420ha implemented.

Many important transport projects are also being built to increase regional connectivity. This district has handed over the site according to the construction schedule of key projects such as Provincial Road 830 (the section from National Highway 50 to Long An International Port); Tan Tap - Long Hau street; Provincial Road 826E has assigned the ground to enterprises preparing to start construction of the road. Long An Southeast Asia Industrial Park (108ha) has also cleared about 100 hectares of land.

Ben Luc is located as a gateway, owning the main roads connecting the interregional passing through such as National Highway 1, National Highway N2, Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, Vam Co Dong River cutting across ... According to the plan, Ben Luc will be an urban and residential development area associated with concentrated industrial zones and clusters with modern technical and social infrastructure. The district's goal is to become a Class II municipality. Meanwhile, Duc Hoa is adjacent to the districts: Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh. Many important transport projects such as DT823D, DT824, DT825 will be started and expanded. Along with Nguyen Van Buoy street (connecting Hoc Mon district with Duc Hoa district) proposed to be upgraded from 32m to 40m, the problem of expanding the population from Ho Chi Minh City to Duc Hoa will be more feasible.

Long An has a natural area of more than 4,494 km2, a population of over 1.6 million people, the urbanization rate by October 2021 reaches about 36% (the whole country is 40%). According to the orientation, by 2030, the population of the province will be about 1.9 million people.

In the period of 2026-2030, the province aims to develop 29 municipalities including establishing 4 new municipalities and upgrading the remaining ones. In particular, there is one class I municipality (Tan An), two class II municipalities (Ben Luc, Kien Tuong), two class III municipalities (Can Giuoc, Hau Nghia), 11 type IV municipalities (Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Tan Thanh, Thanh Hoa, Duc Hoa, Thu Thua, Tan Pillar, Can Duoc, Dong Hoa, Ban Vu, Dong Thanh) and 13 types V (Hung Dien B, Khanh Hung, Thai Binh Trung, Binh Phong Thanh, Hau Thanh Dong, My Quy Tay, Hiep Hoa, My Hanh, Go Den, Luong Hoa,  Rach Kien, Long Duc Dong, Lac Tan).
